Middle East conflict – travel advice

If you’re travelling to or through the Middle East, it’s important to ensure you have the latest advice and information from your airline or travel agent

The war in the Middle East has caused mass disruption to travel plans. Airlines all over the world are currently either cancelling Middle East Flights or re-routing via longer paths.

If you’re travelling to or through the Middle East, it’s important to ensure you have the latest advice and information from your airline or travel agent.

If you are currently in the Middle East

Australian citizens, permanent residents and their immediate family in Israel, Iran, Qatar and the UAE should register with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade so that the Australian Government can send you the latest travel information updates.

Prioritise your safety and follow the advice of local authorities. Keep your devices charged and updated travel documents nearby.

Check the SmartTraveller website and their social media frequently and follow local and internal media to stay informed.

If you are planning to travel to or through the Middle East

Even if your destination is not in the Middle East your travel plans may be affected.

If you were planning to travel to or through the Middle East, you should defer all non-essential travel.

If you have an existing booking, do not cancel your booking, wait for your airline or travel agent to contact you. If you are due to travel in the next 48 hours and you haven’t heard from your airline or travel agent, contact them for advice. Airlines are offering booking changes, a travel credits or refunds whilst waiving the usual fees, but it's important to seek the advice of your travel agent or airline.

It’s essential that you regularly check and follow any directions from the Australian Government on www.smarttraveller.com.au including not travelling to countries that are rated as “Do Not Travel”.
