After discussion with our medical indemnity clients, we want to clarify when our Medical Indemnity policies provide cover for administering naloxone as an emergency medical treatment to reverse the life-threatening effects of a known or suspected opiate (narcotic) overdose.

VMIA’s Medical Indemnity policies provide indemnity for naloxone administration (intramuscular injection and/or nasal spray) to a patient or person by anyone acting on behalf of an organisation insured through VMIA. This includes clinical workers, non-clinical workers, and volunteers.

VMIA advises anyone administering Naloxone should follow the guidance from the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care.
